About Schurgers Lab

In the Schurgers group, we are dedicated to unraveling cellular and molecular mechanisms driving cardiovascular remodelling and its impact on cardiovascular health and ageing. Our team focuses on understanding how ageing influences diseases such as atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis, aneurysm formation, rupture and dissection and the role of monogenetic diseases leading to cardiomyopathies. By bridging fundamental and clinical science we work towards translational applications, aiming to develop innovative solutions for complex medical challenges.

Our Research

The research within the Schurgers group is dedicated to advancing our understanding of cardiovascular disease. More specific, our group focusses on cardiovascular remodeling, vascular and valvular calcification, and the role of vitamin K-metabolsism in cardiovascular health. Within the Schurgers group, we combine cutting-edge science and novel technologies with clinical insights to uncover novel mechanisms and therapeutic approaches in cardiovascular disease. Our mission is to bridge the gap between fundamental research and practical solutions, addressing key challenges in ageing and monogenetic-related cardiovascular disease. By collaborating with academic institutions, industrial partners, and healthcare professionals, we strive to translate our findings into impactful innovations that improve patient care and public health.
