Armand Jaminon
Assistent Professor, vascular smooth muscle cells in arterial remodeling and vascular calcification
Personal summary
Currently I am an assistant professor in the Schurgers laboratory. I am responsible for the management of the labs which includes biosafety expertise. Additionally, I am the biosafety expert of the department of Biochemistry and I arrange all the necessary documentation for working with genetically modified organisms. In 2024 I was appointed as lab manager of the "Stem Cell Research University Maastricht” facility. A stand-alone central core facility in the faculty of FHML of Maastricht university that is resonsible for the generation and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells. I am also appointed in the task force “Knowledge platform Biomedical Model systems Maastricht" (KBM2) entitled to compile a university wide database covering all biomedical models systems that exist within the FHML. Other relevant tasks include educational activities ranging from being the co-promoter of PhD students, supervision of students and being the coordinator of 2 courses within the FSE.
Research
My research focuses on the interaction of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and how these cell behave in arterial remodeling processes with a strong link to cardiovascular diseases and a primary focus on vascular calcification. My personal interest focusses on the development of novel models to study the VSMCs and the extracellular matrix (ECM) interaction. The latest focus in my research is the generation of differentiation VSMCs from induced pluripotent stem cells and using these cells for the development of novel 3D vascular systems.
