Cecile Maassen
Variety of biochemistry techniques
Personal Summary
As a technician I love to work on the lab.
Together with Petra I am responsible for all vitamin K related assays like:
Determination of Vitamin K in all kinds of samples, like f.i plasma, bacteria, baby stools, liver, brain etc. via HPLC
Determination of dpucMGP, automated ELISA
Determination of PIVKA II, under carboxylated factor II, home made ELISA
Other ELISA’s like Osteocalcin and ELISA’s for other important proteins like FGF23, IL6 and others.
For all these assays we have collaborations all over the world, we receive many samples for different assays…. This requires really good Sample-management.
For our old PI Chris Reutelingsperger I still do some work once in a while… Purifying AnnexinA5 which we make in a bacteria-culture and subsequently label it with different labels like Fluorescin or Biotin. Off course this process is followed up strictly by all kinds of quality controls.
I like to help when people in our group are in need of some extra hands… pipetting large series of samples, aliquoting, staining tissues, wherever help is needed… people can always ask me.
In general… as a technician one of my main goals is to keep our lab running, productive, nice and clean and a nice environment to work in for everybody of our group. This involves helping people find their way, introduce techniques, ordering of supplies, etc etc. Specifically I am responsible for the chemicals of our group and the freezers, designate space to people and keep everything organized..
What is your research about?
A difficult question to answer, since our field is so broad… In general I would say our group is looking at human vessels, what can go wrong (aneurysm, calcification)… but also, and that is the part I am looking at… how can we keep them healthy, and what is the influence of vitamin K on that … Spoiler: We believe Vitamin K has a really good effect!
