Vanessa Bröker

PhD Candidate in Vascular Thrombo-inflammation

Personal Summary

Hi there! I’m Vanessa Bröker, a passionate researcher at the Schurgers Lab, working on cutting-edge projects in the field of cardiovascular biology. As part of the European network TICARDIO (www.ticardio.eu), my work focuses on studying thrombo-inflammation using induced pluripotent stem cell-derived vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. Moreover, I’ve developed a biomimetic culture model using a human-derived matrix to enhance our ability to study cardiovascular systems in a lab setting. This innovative approach provides more accurate and relevant insights into vascular research, bridging the gap between experimental models and real-world human biology.

Since starting my PhD in 2020, I’ve been dedicated not only to advancing our scientific understanding but also to fostering collaboration and community within our department. Whether it’s organizing social events or supporting team projects, I enjoy bringing people together and contributing to an inspiring workplace culture.
